For our mature members, our strength is in our experience and knowledge about our jobs. Quit sharing it so freely with the child managers and bean counters who now run Qworst. Make them earn their pay as they make you earn yours.

You have 8 months until the contract expires. The smart thing to do now is set aside some money every month in case we strike. Wish I could afford to take etn. Hard to ask for a raise when you take etn. I have to agree, these people are really stupid.

AS ALWAYS, IF MANAGEMENT WAS FAIR AND CONSISTENT---WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE ONGOING ISSUES THAT SEEM TO CONTINUE TO SURFACE!
ALSO, I AGREE THAT WE SHOULD NOT BAIL OUT MANAGEMENT BY USING ETN.
THIS HURTS ALL OF US BY LETTING MANAGEMENT KNOW THAT WE CAN GET BY WITH FEWER PEOPLE!

ALL MEMBERS SHOULD BE SAVING UP FOR THE PENDING CONTRACT. I KNOW THAT WE ALL HAVE BILLS TO PAY-BUT WE NEED TO BE PREPARED TO BE OUT FOR A LEAST 1 MONTH.
WE HAVE BAILED OUT THIS COMPANY FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 3 CONTRACTS.
WHAT DID WE GET IN RETURN?
MANAGEMENT SAYS WE SHOULD BE LUCKY THAT WE HAVE A JOB!

HERE WE GO AGAIN---MANAGEMENT TRYING TO PUT A KINK IN THE ARMOR OF THE UNION. ITS CONTRACT TIME AND THEY AS STIRRING UP HATE AND DISCONTENT. THEY TELL EMPLOYEES THAT EVERYTHING GOING WRONG IS BECAUSE OF OUR UNION. THEY NEGELCT TO SAY THAT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO MEET WITH THE UNION AND TALK IN GOOD FAITH. WE HAVE SEEN THEM LIE AND BE VINDICTIVE. THIS IS THE TIME WE SHOULD BE STRONG AND GET MORE PEOPLE TO SIGN CARDS TO JOIN THE UNION AND NOT LET THE LIARS DICTATE WHAT THE RULES.

HA, non members pay for something. Good luck with that. They will continue to "FREE LOAD" the system, because that is a State issue not a contract issue. Lobby your officials to change NE from a right to work state to a labor state. Maybe then some wouldn't think "OUR" union isn't so weak.

I’m ex-union member, Not at all ashamed to say it. I quit in a attempt to draw attention to the fact that the Local 7400 has a horrible history of letting its members get stonewalled by the company in our wonderful QCCC. Most members in my opinion are the blind leading the blind, You talk about sticking up for each others rights but all you ever do is place your fate in the hands of your chief steward and let the cards fall where they may.
Give me ANY example where the management in the QCCC did not get their way because the Local 7400 united and stopped them. If the union is the sum of its members then this local is very weak, I was a member and part to blame because I was not strong enough to fight every time management stomped a mud hole in this locals membership.
This Union is living off the past all I ever hear is talk about back in the old days. For 7 years I heard that crap and I’m sick of it. Show me what you have done today that earns my membership. How many worthless stewards do you need on one floor? We have 6 or 7 that are worthless and unreliable and one who has attempted to get his fellow members fired!!! Yet the chief Steward when confronted about this person refused to act on the memberships behalf and revoke this stewardship.
Another example of this Locals inability to act for the rights of its members, So I tell you what.
I will take the money I use to give as dues put it in the bank and over the course of the next year give myself small sums of it as a raise which I know this weak Union will not get for us come contract time.
Either you Stewards wake up and open your ears to your membership or step down. ALSO don’t use the weak ass excuse of were you at the HALL for the meeting. If that is the only way to have my voice heard then you have failed at Stewardship.

Cry all you like about non-members not paying due's...Cry all you like about wanting me to pay my own Insurance. But take a moment to realize that not eveyone is NOT a member for the same reasons. You do not pay my insurance with your dues. So don't pretend to. I have a valid reson for leaving the Union, whether or not you think so. You would stop going to a Gym that did not honor your membership so why keep paying to Union that does not honor it's membership...Oh and FYI when Corky was approached about all of us leaving the union...He only showed concern for the loss of dues not members and sent a generic e-mail wishing to know reasons..but never bothered to show his face...If 7 ppl drop from 1 floor...You think maybe that would cause some concern..but not in the local 7400. Good day.

Non-Member your non support is welcomed as we see take and complain is all you can do. What has the union done for me? You hear the news just like the rest of us you know people pay plenty for health care,do you ?
You did get a raise didn't you, GM , Ford big layoff's , Layoffs everywhere, wages cut no really cut, yes , your at work crying about stewards, you won't stand up so you run here to have you opinion addressed maybe you say something someone wants to hear, I know at least one person believes your noise thats you,I hope you got whatever off your chest, now you need to look at all sides of this issue think hard ,,PS don't be afraid to come to hall the union don't rub off, unless you want it too,,non members are welcomed there too.

At March 24, 2008 at 8:48 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

And to you who said the UNION does not pay your health care your right we don't, but don't you act as though its not a group, collective policy either, if you want to prove a point thats fine then do what you do. Even when think you stand alone you still have union support. PS name a quitter who ever proved anything?

This is the chief steward for the 10 th floor... some examples,,, we have a tardy policy which has kept people from being fired for 7 years, whose been fired for performance issues in 7 years, how many people have gotten there jobs back in 7 years, many of the issues we resolve are not for discussion here ,prints not the place for them, again your opinion is heard here, but hear us too it a constant fight to keep what we have, without ideas and ways to bring them forth we can't grow, turning your back on the us the union is turning your back on yourself. Think about it?

To the 10th floor steward, I know you work hard at what you do. The issue I have is that some employees are over protected. You brought back people who don't work. We still do their job as if they were gone. Thanks for the extra work instead of having management fill the slot with someone who will work.

At April 1, 2008 at 1:37 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here is my problem if we have a steward that is trying to get a union brother or sister fired on more than 1 occasion why would we still support said steward. Used to be where all of us stuck up for each other and went after the manager not the fellow employee. This local is not strong in membership or in leadership which is why they fail to stop anything here. Man I need to get out of this state and get back to a real local again.....

Let's face the facts. Local 7400 is a pretty weak local. They have no interest in pursuing grievances. The company can walk all over this local and proves it on an almost daily basis! This is from the perspective of the QCCC.

Qwest is violating the contract I went on strike for back in 1998, and the union doesn't give a rat's ass! From overtime, to seniority, to scheduling, to work assignments, the company does what it damn well wants, when it wants, and 7400 whimpers in the corner like a beaten puppy.

We now have the new phone system coming on line shortly that will be judge, jury, and executioner all in one! WOW! I am incredulous that a software package could be so intelligent. Is it a sentient being? Is it aware? Is it aware of it's awareness? That's one bad motherfu**er- But I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft! Well, not really. I guess I'm talking about HAL, from the movie 2001. Will it go to management to voice it's concerns about my impending psychotic episodes?

And just why the hell is the QCCC trying to consolidate the SA title with the SR title? They fought like hell to make sure the SA was different from Screening Consultants (a grade 4 job), and in the process, differentiated it from the SR job. It may be inevitable, as my union once again decides to roll over on it's back like a frickin miniature poodle with a bow in it's ears up against a wolf/pit bull mix with anger management issues and a bad meth habit, but why are they cross training management pets and favorites, and not by seniority? Are they trying to circumvent seniority yet again? Will they once again claim some people are good boys and girls and some people are scum because some volunteered and some didn't?

And ya know? I put in my grievances, and I don't know if they went in the shredder or in some galactic black hole! Never an email, or text, or snail mail or even a smoke signal! Ugh! Where the hell are my dues going? In somebodies pocket? Organizing the Egyptian papyrus manufacturers? Maybe the Union presidents slush fund for hookers and blow?

And lets face it. I read these comments where at least one poor uninformed person claims we have gotten raises, and think, "ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK?" In 1998 the contract provided for a grade 5 wage of $735 weekly as of Aug 16, 1998. That is $934.95 as of this writing using the CPI and real value of dollars. Yet my wage is $890.50. Seems like I lost a lot of ground there! Uh-huh! That's right girlfriend!!! ( bobbing head and dancing around with hands on hips!) You need to get me a dollar an hour plus to get me back square with the past.

SO, before CWA posts some scathing comments on how great it is, get off your ass and get me something. I pay YOU to profit ME, I don't pay YOU to profit YOU!!!!!

At April 14, 2008 at 12:47 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why doesn’t everyone just quit the Union! It sure would be interesting to see what kind of contract you would get then. The Union is a Democratic organization if you don’t like it get involved to change it or support someone that will. If you were in Mexico, Columbia or some other country that the American Corporations have moved to, you would be killed for being involved with Union activity or even participating on this forum. If you have a problem with issues in the workplace and wanted to get serious about resolving them, how many of you would walk out the front door to make it real?? My guess is not very many. Until this starts to happen the company knows your weak/quitters. When you say the Union is weak it does not surprise me. It is a shame the Union has to rely on people like you whining and crying instead of getting in the face of the Company Managers who are the real problem. Make Them Nervous! Remember, the crumbs that fall off the table you receive as wages and benefits, your corporate leaders want those too. If it wasn’t for the Union you would need a lot more than a dollar to get even. You sound like a smart ass that thinks he is cute with all the Organizing the Egyptian papyrus manufacturers? Maybe the Union presidents slush fund for hookers and blow? I have been to Egypt and have seen the papyrus manufacturers and they would love to be in a Union. Even Yours!

Never been a part of union until I came to US West/QWEST... Used to feel the strength of the Union local 7400 behind me. Now I am not sure if it is worth it anymore. Further wondering... what are my dues for? Will I have to pay $5 for a t-shirt when negotiation comes around again? Will we get cookies? How about pizza? It's been a while for all of the above. Scratch it... how about current info on greivances filed, what ideas might be on the table at negotiation time. You know, things that matter. Save the cookies and *$@! for our sons and daughters coming to work day. How about it! Put our money where your mouth is! No wonder people are quitting... doesn't seem so stupid to me!

Look fools, the CWA is nothing more than a bureaucratic organization that is concerned with nothing more than self survival. If you don't believe that to be true, why is Annie Hill still in office after massive downsizing and unprecedented give backs the last few years? She is drawing her paycheck, and she feels the pain of the rank and file as much as Joe the Cheese Nachos did.

Why should I trust the CWA? They allowed the business office to be sold down the river.

Why should I trust the CWA? As long as they protect the outside techs, they don't give a damn what happens to the rest of the company, which brings me to my prediction that you hear here first! (Damn that's good grammar!)

Techs are the largest voting block in the company! Contract coming up! Qwest gives techs a raise - but they want to move ALL phone work to India! Yes, that's right, anything done by phone can be done in India and/or Phillipines and/or Mexico and/or etc! So the company will finance the techs pay raise and status quo on health insurance by laying off the QCCC techs and SA's and SR's, and by laying off LRAC, Assignments, and all other network positions including RCHC and CCT's in any other location. The tech's will be getting what they want and vote in that contract District 7 negotiated. Everyone else, KISS your SWEET ASS GOODBYE!

I have not EVER voted for a contract this union has negotiated, for they all have given away things won in the past; By people working for the phone company when it was something to be proud of, not someting to hide because people tell you how much your company sucks!

Does anyone care about what the csa's are making. Also why is Qwest outsourcing our sales while we in the sales center are doing billing calls. I find it interesting that the turn over rate of csa's is so high. Without us to answer the calls and sign up new customers Qwest would we out of business. We need to be paid more for what we do. Stop selling our services at Walmart,Best Buy etc. Verizon made the company stop this because of all the problems it was causing with screwed up orders. We are treated worst than any other group. 10.20 an hour is what they pay and it seeems they are can not hire top quality help since all the other companies in town pay 3-4 dollars an hour more. I am number 10 in senority of all the csa's and can not live on what I get paid.If the union does not get us a higher base I will be gone come august. Let qwest outsource the whole company. Yes net tech and installers all can be outsourced. We have to stand together or I promise you they will continue to cut jobs and hire contractors to do the job you have. Look at the cell phone deal with verizon. Soon the WCOE will be closed and Qwest will not have to deal with paying Qwest employees to help our wireless customers. Who says they can't bid out the tech jobs to non union contractors. We are letting non union people sell our services so why would they stop there.

For our mature members, our strength is in our experience and knowledge about our jobs. Quit sharing it so freely with the child managers and bean counters who now run Qworst. Make them earn their pay as they make you earn yours.

Why are we changing the bylaws to save money

At July 24, 2008 at 1:10 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Local is trying to change the by-laws to save money because we don't have enough members. At the next membership meeting you are going to hear some ideas on how we could save money such as cutting Wanda's hours, and benefits. I am ashamed to be associated with a Union that would even think about doing this to another Unionist. When we have some on the board who sit back and collect a stipend and the Local gets minimal services in return compared to what the Local gets from Wanda. Instead of going after another Unionist why don't we make sure we are doing everything we can to increase our membership. I know some members of our Local don't even know there's a ten dollar bounty for signing up new members because their VP chooses not to share this information with them. You may also hear that some of the VP's of our Local use to much Union paid time. This argument will be directed at the Qwest VP's. The Qwest VP's and their Stewards together processed over 700 grievances in 2007. The other VP's processed about 25 grievances combined in 2007. So they would have no idea how much time is put into processing so many grievances. I think Union paid time to do some of the work needed for processing these grievances is not taking away anything from the Local. The VP's have to supply the members representation and Qwest will not allow the VP's or Stewards to move their breaks/lunches to let them meet a member on their break/lunch. I would like to know how much Union paid time was taken by the last administration, compares to this administrations? That may be a reason our budget is in the condition it's in today. The Qwest VP's give up a lot of their personal time, why should they be expected to give up their paycheck as well? The by-law change does not have to be a permanant thing. Once the budget is straightened out then it could be changed back with VP's from EVERY bargaining unit within our Local on the board. There is a VP that thinks this idea is sarcastic but how many years has Avaya had a VP on the board with less than 10 people being represented? So why shouldn't all the units have a VP on the board? The At Large VP that would represent the other bargaining units would have about as many members to represent as each of the Qwest VP's. So, with a strong Steward structure under them, the At Large VP should be successful. I'm sorry for such a long blog but some of us call ourselves Unionist but are not willing to do what's right for the Local instead they're looking out for themselves. I hope everyone will be able to attend the membership meeting August 12, at 7:30 pm to vote on this by-law change and get updated on contract negotiations. In Solidarity.

At July 24, 2008 at 11:13 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The at large VP position was very successful when it was used in the past. This sounds to me like the most effecient cost savings. Also, don't we complain about Qworst cutting our jobs and benefits while they sit there fat and happy making and spending too much money. Are we turning into what we hate by cutting Wanda's hours and benefits? These people should be ashamed of themselves.
Also, maybe we should make them submit to us as the membership how many hours they spent of their own time vs. how much Union paid time every month. Hey WAKE UP! YOU WORK FOR US!

At July 24, 2008 at 12:34 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sisters and Brothers I need to make a correction Qwest processed 424 grievances in 2007 and the other bargaining units combined processed 15, I apologize. In Solidarity
